What a wonderful project! I can’t believe it took me so long to stumble upon it. Love this time period. Keep up the good work!

How amazing! What a wonderful overview of the Bake-Off. In times of lack and loss, how exciting it must have been to be whisked away to New York City, maybe the only real long-distance travel for many contestants. Just curious. . . so far, have all the contestants been women? Of course, I can't help but think this would be a great intro to a cookbook of historical recipes.

Actually I have profiled two of the men already... Houston Newman and Harvey Andrews . I'm having some trouble finding information about the third so I'm still working on that.

What a great read on the history of the times of those women. I enjoyed it very much. I've enjoyed reading about the contestant and especially enjoyed the pictures of the finished product and yours and Alans judgment.

This is such a fantastic project. I recently learned the term "microhistory" - focusing on small units in society and using those stories to tell the bigger picture. Your project definitely fits that category. Each profile *seems* like it could just be one woman's story, but they tell so much more about American history of the time. Congratulations on your anniversary and I look forward to reading more!

Thank you, Jen. I love that term and it does capture this work perfectly.

I’ve seen my grandma’s scrapbooks and heard her stories, but I’ve never had an idea of what it really felt like to be competing in 1949 until right now. Brilliant storytelling. Thank you!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
